The village and the parish have distinct but connected stories. Here we bring together verified milestones and the memory of those who preserved the faith.

Zakarpattia — our homeland
Zakarpattia is a Carpathian region where languages, cultures and spiritual traditions meet. A landmark in its church history was the Union of Uzhhorod on 24 April 1646, when 63 priests of the Byzantine rite entered communion with the See of Rome. Our parish shares in this heritage.
The village council’s historical account gives 1381 as Poroshkovo’s first recorded mention, while also noting the alternative date of 1357. Derivation of the name from a village headman called Poroshko is one interpretation rather than an established fact. The village’s history is distinct from the foundation of the parish.

A new church — the renewal of the parish
On 23 October 2003, a chapel in the former outpatient clinic was blessed for the community. A year later Bishop Milan blessed the new church’s cornerstone; the church was consecrated on 18 July 2009. The parish house, begun in 2011, was blessed on 18 July 2015.
The village council records Poroshkovo’s first documentary mention in 1381, also noting the alternative year 1357. This is not the founding date of the parish.
